About Sean
I am a second-year undergraduate student at the University of Nottingham, taking a degree in Politics and Economics. These subjects are my passion. At school, I received 5s (Equivalent to As) in AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics and AP US Government and Politics. Before the 2024 general election, I did nearly three months of work experience for a Member of Parliament giving me an inside view of the workings of British politics. My main interest in politics is the rise of populism, how it interacts with the established two-party system and the likelihood of a transition to multiparty democracy. Following my undergraduate degree, I am looking to do a Master's in Economics. My main interests in economics are the effects of monetary policy on macroeconomic outcomes and the sustainability of government debt.

I'm of the opinion that economics is one of the most rewarding subjects. But it's similar to learning a language. To fully appreciate it, you have to immerse yourself in the subject. Therefore, my lessons will place a strong emphasis on applying the theory mandated by the curriculum to the real world. Likewise, for politics, I will be using case studies to illuminate how the British and American political systems function. I am happy to be flexible to students' needs and to focus on topics that they need the most help with. A typical lesson will last an hour. For any given topic, we will go through the content and then I will ask a series of analytical questions and set some mathematical problems if applicable. Only when faced with questions can you truly be sure that you understand a topic. If the student is unable to answer the questions, that's perfectly fine. Economics especially can be a complex subject and I am happy to break concepts down to their most basic level and work slowly through them until the student understands. I will set some work between lessons. This will include reading short news articles related to the content and answering some questions. This will solidify students' understanding of how economic and political theory relates to the real world and will be good preparation for exams, especially A-level.
