About Matthew
Hi! I’m Matt, and I’m here to help you navigate the sometimes chaotic (but always fascinating) worlds of history and politics. I studied Politics and International Relations at Lancaster University, graduating with First Class Honours, and during my time there, I was Vice Chairman and Treasurer of the Politics Society. That meant plenty of debates, campaigning, and running events—all of which deepened my understanding of how politics works beyond the textbooks.
I’ve been tutoring since university, and my approach is all about making history and politics engaging, relevant, and maybe even fun. My lessons aren’t just about memorising dates or political theories—I want to help you develop critical thinking skills, build strong arguments, and tackle exam questions with confidence. Expect plenty of discussions, real-world examples, and practical exam techniques. Whether you’re aiming for top grades or just trying to make sense of the subject, I tailor my sessions to your needs.
Outside of tutoring, I’ve had a bit of an unconventional route, from managing pubs to researching geopolitical conflicts. So, if you ever need an analogy about the Treaty of Versailles using pub politics, I’ve got you covered. If you’re studying GCSE or A-Level History or Politics and want a tutor who makes things clear, engaging, and (hopefully) a little less stressful, I’d love to help!

My approach to tutoring history and politics focuses on developing critical thinking, essay-writing skills, and a deep understanding of key concepts rather than just memorising facts. I tailor my lessons to each student’s needs, using a mix of discussion-based learning, source analysis, and structured essay practice to help them engage with the material and build strong arguments.
Lessons typically last an hour, allowing time for both content explanation and interactive activities.
With experience tutoring during my university studies, alongside active involvement in political debates and running party societies, I bring both academic knowledge and real-world political insight to my teaching.
My lessons are designed for GCSE and A-level students, helping them to gain confidence, improve their exam technique, and develop a passion for history and politics.
