About Matthew

I love helping kids with math. In my free time, I volunteer with the non-profit organization, Orlando Math Circle, or OMC. I taught all types of students at OMC from elementary to high school, and many of them ranked nationally in math competitions. I earned the Gold Presidential Volunteer award from the amount of tutoring I did with OMC.

After having taught math for a while, I know that no matter how bad you may think you are at math, or how likely you believe you are to fail, you always have the potential to become much better at math.

When I was in seventh grade, I tutored my 8th-grade sister in Geometry. At the time, she could barely do basic algebra and would come to me and tell me she couldn't do it. Instead of forcing her, I worked with her and taught her not only the math but to believe in herself and that she could do it. Now, she has just finished IB Calculus I in tenth grade with an A. She took the mentality I taught her and took it a long way.

The same thing can happen to you! No matter how bad you may think you are at math, or whether you're just not naturally talented in it, you are always able to progress.

About the lesson

n my lessons, I do not teach students boring facts that anyone can memorize. I teach them the art of math, and how to apply it to new situations. I strive to diverge from the "formula memorizing" path and instead teach them why those formulas work and how to solve problems without formulas. I can go over either a broad or specific topic. My lessons are optimized for all different types of students.
