About Ellen
I have taught for groups and individually, and I believe that each individual is unique, and the key is to understand the methodology that works for each. I prefer to treat classes as therapy sessions, discussion environments, meetings with friends, where we talk about subjects that make sense to the student, everyday issues, real situations, and language learning comes from the universe in which this student is inserted. I believe that learning takes place more efficiently when it is linked to something real, situational memory or experience, not just memorizing new words or grammar rules.

My goal is to make foreigners learn to read, write and speak Portuguese as easily and quickly as they do in their mother tongue. I lived in the US, and although I already speak English fluently, I could understand through living with natives that understanding and expression in a language goes beyond vocabulary and grammar. It depends on understanding the culture, the references, and the essence of that language. I try to bring this into my classes and make learning more fluid and organic. As I have a background and experience in audiovisual, I believe that movies, music, news, everything that reflects culture facilitates learning and provides context that more traditional methods overlook.
