About Joana

My name is Joana Massana and I'm Portuguese but I've been living in the UK since 06/2016.

I’m working presently as a Teacher Assistant in some schools (as an Agency) and I Teach Online as well, so I’m trained to put the others first, to make sure that their needs are satisfied as learners and that I do my best to provide them all the materials and information needed. Also, I’ve worked in a Residential Childcare with some children with learning disabilities and many different problems, there I was able to see their real struggles on a daily basis. In the past, I worked as a Designer / 3D Programmer for almost 5 years and I just loved it. This was a really exciting job that gave me the opportunity to explore my creativity and share it with others. I also really enjoy writing, designing, building websites and trying to learn everything that is available about all the amazing things that can be done using different computer programs. I have a Computer Technician course (2006-2009), this made me aware of how important and essential the new technology is nowadays, so it made me more curious. I also have different courses that allow me and trained me to be a good teacher, Teaching Assistant and Special Education Needs (2019).

In 2015, while in University, I worked as a volunteer in an association providing support for children and young adults with learning disabilities and autism. There, I did different activities, including helping them to do their homework and to prepare for tests and exams. And before that, I had given private lessons for children and teenagers in different subjects. I think this experience allowed me to develop skills needed to support people and made me see the world differently in regards to how to look at people, make myself more caring, empathetic and thoughtful, I understood how important it is to put their needs first, assist them in benefiting from education and enable them to develop their skills.

I believe that my passion for people and my knowledge would help me to be a good tutor, taking into consideration that every student is different and has different capacities, goals and passions for what they are doing/learning.

About the lesson

For me, the best way to learn is "playing", I mean, in a relaxed way, playing some games, doing some exercises, activities, projects, listening and translating music, without any pressure. I will have some materials ready for each lesson - different things and nothing heavy. Lessons need to be enjoyable if students are to learn quickly. I promise good results! No matter how old you are, my lessons will always be interesting, funny, simple, light, productive and efficient - I'll aim for perfection!
