About Vandana

I am Vandana, a postgraduate from IIT Kanpur, and I tutor with the same care I bring to my professional work.
I have a master’s degree from IIT Kanpur, where the training in math, science, and analytical thinking is rigorous. I am also a Certified Scrum Product Owner. For a little over nine years I have worked in analytics and product roles, including business and product analytics, AI and data products, and billing and payments. That work has required clear SQL, careful reading of numbers, and the ability to explain a technical idea to someone who is still learning it.
Students and parents can expect a professional session. I arrive prepared, I follow the student’s syllabus or a clear SQL goal, and I keep notes on what we covered and what to practice next. I am punctual, I respect cancellation notice, and I do not share a student’s work or progress outside the lesson.
Vandana’s aim is simple: the student should leave the hour more sure of the next problem than when they arrived. Whether the goal is a middle school science test, high school math, or a first solid SQL query, the lesson stays structured, patient, and focused on understanding.

About the lesson

I am Vandana, a postgraduate from IIT Kanpur. I tutor middle school and high school math and science, and I also teach SQL and data analytics to older students and adults.
My method is simple. I start from what the student already understands, then add one idea at a time. I do not lecture for the whole hour. I work a problem with them, ask them to try the next one, and have them explain the step back to me. If they cannot explain it, we have not finished that idea. Mistakes are useful. We look at where the step went wrong and fix that, instead of jumping to the final answer.
A typical lesson has three parts. First, a short check of the last homework or the topic they are stuck on. Second, the main work: a school concept, a set of problems, or a SQL question they need to write and run. Third, a recap and one clear task to practice before we meet again. For math and science I stay close to their class syllabus. For SQL I use real questions: filter a table, join two tables, check the result, and correct the query.
What sets me apart is that I use these skills at work, not only in a textbook. I have spent about nine years in analytics and AI products, writing and reviewing queries, metrics, and data problems, and explaining them to people who are not technical. I bring that same patience to a student. I am calm, structured, and focused on understanding, not on rushing through a worksheet.
Lessons are for middle school and high school students who want stronger math or science, and for students or professionals who want practical SQL and analytics. I teach in person in Arlington and online. Vandana keeps the session focused on the student’s level, whether that is a class test next week or a first SQL query.
