About James
I'm James, a Hardware Applications Engineer based in Sydney. I studied Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Queensland. I have worked at Cochlear on next-generation sound processors, developed engine control systems for mining vehicles, and now work on next-generation long-range Wi-Fi technology at Australia's largest semiconductor company. Outside of work, I'm an executive for RoboCup Junior Australia, the country's largest high school robotics competition.
I tutor because I remember how much easier engineering and physics clicked when someone showed me how it connected to real things rather than just abstract theory. I've been teaching in some form for over 5 years, from teaching fundamentals of Year 7 mathematics to running first-year engineering tutorials at UQ, and it's something I keep coming back to because I enjoy it. There's nothing better than watching a concept finally land for someone who's been stuck on it.

I'm a Hardware Engineer at Australia's largest semiconductor company, an Electrical Engineering Honors graduate and an executive for Australia's largest high school robotics competition. I have over 5 years of tutoring experience across university courses, high school physics and math and robotics and programming coaching.
My approach is to connect what you're learning to how it's actually used. I work with circuits, antennas, and PCB design every day, so I can show you why the theory matters rather than just asking you to memorize formulas. I focus on building problem-solving skills and confidence, not just getting through the syllabus.
Lessons are typically 1 hour and tailored to what you need — whether that's working through practice problems, breaking down tricky concepts, or exam prep. I tutor high school students in physics, math, and programming (Years 7–12), and university students in electrical engineering subjects including circuits, signals and systems, electronics, and electromagnetics. Available evenings and weekends, online or in person.
