I’ve worked with Julia for a year now and it’s been by far the most productive year of studying the language.
I really respond to her approach, which mixes structural and grammatical rigor with an openness to let the conversation travel where it needs. We’ve had extended discussions about Ukrainian elections, Soviet cinema and local food. I’ve been writing more and been more comfortable in engaging in contemporary texts and Russian media.
We’ve also sorted through long standing issues I’ve had with cases, pronunciation and various tricky Russian participles. While I still have a ways to on my journey, I’ve felt more comfortable (both in class and in Russia) after spending time with her.
She comes with my highest recommendation.
I had an emergency situation in which I had 4 days to learn a speech in Russian for my friend's wedding. Of course, I speak no Russian!
Julia translated a speech from English for me then diligently worked with me to learn how to pronounce everything. We were limited on time, and her ability to explain pronunciations helped out so much! She also created audio files for me to listen to and repeat after so I could practice during lunch, in my car, etc.
Additionally, the speech she translated for me was a really sweet translation and had subtleties that I could not have done myself, for instance, "детишек" (detishek) instead of "дети" (deti)... My friend's wife thought it was so cute like a really caring way to end the speech. And! As a result I caught the attention of my now girlfriend, so I'm forever indebted to Julia :-)
To summarize, she's an excellent teacher with a natural ability to help with pronunciation and is also a master of Russian grammar and instruction. You can't go wrong.
Julia is a fantastic teacher with a true passion for education! She is kind, patient, and pays very close attention to detail. She is very clear when she explains new topics and does a great job at instilling confidence in her students. I highly recommend Julia!
I've been taking Russian lessons with Julia for about 6 months and she has been a fantastic teacher! In addition to lessons on the Russian language itself, she provides insights into Russian life and culture that really bring the language alive. I would highly recommend Julia to anyone who is looking to learn Russian!
