About Emma

I am a fully qualified primary school teacher with over 20 years’ experience working with children across the primary age range. For more than 10 years, I have held senior leadership roles within a primary school, giving me a deep understanding of both classroom practice and the wider needs of children and families.

Throughout my career, I have specialised in supporting children with additional and special educational needs, helping them to build confidence, develop key skills, and make meaningful progress. I am particularly experienced in all areas of English, including phonics, reading, writing, spelling and grammar, as well as primary mathematics, from number fluency to reasoning and problem-solving.

I am passionate about creating a positive, calm, and supportive learning environment where children feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow in confidence. I believe strong relationships are key to success, and I take time to get to know each child as an individual.

About the lesson

My lessons are calm, structured, and highly personalised, designed to help children feel confident, supported, and successful. As a qualified primary school teacher with over 20 years’ experience, including more than 10 years as a senior leader, I use proven classroom strategies adapted for one-to-one tuition.

My Teaching Approach & Methodology

I begin by getting to know each child’s strengths, needs, and learning style. Lessons are carefully planned and adapted to ensure progress while building confidence and independence.

My approach includes:

Clear learning objectives shared with the child

Step-by-step teaching with modelling and guided practice

Multi-sensory strategies to support children with additional needs

Regular retrieval and review to secure learning

Positive reinforcement and encouragement throughout

For English, I specialise in:

Phonics and early reading

Reading fluency and comprehension

Writing structure, grammar, spelling and vocabulary

For Maths, I focus on:

Number sense and fluency

Reasoning and problem-solving

Breaking concepts down into manageable steps

I also provide targeted SATs preparation for Year 2 and Year 6, ensuring children understand both content and exam techniques without pressure.

Lesson Structure & Length

Lessons are typically 60 minutes, which allows time for teaching, practice, and reflection.

Short movement or brain breaks are included where helpful, particularly for younger children or those with additional needs.

Each session ends with a brief review and clear next steps.

Qualifications & Experience

Fully qualified primary school teacher (QTS)

Over 20 years’ experience teaching across the primary age range

Senior leadership experience in a primary school for over 10 years

Extensive experience supporting children with additional and special educational needs

Strong knowledge of the UK primary curriculum, phonics programmes, and SATs expectations
