About Lisa
I am a highly experienced and dedicated primary teacher with 21 years of teaching experience, the majority of which has been spent working with Year 6 pupils and preparing children for SATs examinations to a high standard. I have extensive experience assessing pupils’ attainment, identifying gaps in knowledge and delivering focused teaching to help children make strong academic progress and achieve their potential.
My experience of teaching at the end of Key Stage 2 has given me an excellent understanding of the knowledge, skills and examination techniques children need to succeed in English and Mathematics, as well as how to build confidence, independence and resilience when preparing for important assessments.
I have A Levels in English and Mathematics and completed an English specialism as part of my teaching degree. I was also Maths Lead Teacher for 10 years, developing extensive expertise in mathematics teaching, assessment, curriculum progression and strategies for addressing misconceptions and accelerating pupil progress.

I believe children learn best when they are engaged, encouraged and enjoying their learning. My approach is warm, positive and fun, while maintaining high expectations. I aim to make lessons something children look forward to rather than something they feel anxious about.
As a personal tutor, I can offer the experience and knowledge of a highly qualified teacher combined with the individual attention that is difficult to provide in a busy classroom. I take time to understand each child as an individual, identify exactly where they need support and tailor lessons accordingly.
I use a varied and engaging approach, incorporating games, challenges, discussion, questioning, practical activities and exam-style questions where appropriate. I want children not simply to learn the answers, but to understand how and why they have reached them. This helps develop the reasoning, problem-solving and independent thinking skills.
I also understand that preparing for an entrance examination can sometimes feel daunting for children. I work hard to create a calm, supportive environment where pupils feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions and challenging themselves. Building confidence is just as important as building knowledge.
