About Richard
I am a recent PhD graduate that is passionate about science and helping others think creatively about how the world around them functions. My experiences have given me a unique perspective on how to approach biology while also teaching me how to effectively interact with people. Before my career in grad school I conducted 2 years of post-bacc research at Harvard Medical School, which was instrumental in understanding how tier 1 institutions conduct science and educate their students. While in my PhD program, I assisted in teaching several classes at Princeton; Intro to Biology and Cell & Developmental Biology. These classes covered a wide breadth of biological subjects, so I am well versed in how to introduce most concepts within this area. I was personally responsible for precepts (small sub groups) of up to 15 people throughout the year and it was in this setting that I guided students through auxiliary lessons and addressed topics that were too dense to be fully covered in the main lecture. Outside of the academic sphere, I also enjoy volunteering and have served on many projects to help recruit students and educate them about various aspects of the graduate student perspective. I believe these experiences helped me become a more efficient communicator. I had to succinctly distill key information regarding programs and student life while also understanding the needs and interests of the person I was interacting with. I look forward to working with any and all students that want to deepen their understanding and never stop asking 'why'.

Lessons would be tailored to the class the student is currently taking so that the outcomes can be maximized. The length of each session will vary as needed, but I anticipate most to be 1-1.5hrs. I will go into as much depth as possible while retaining the overall gist of the topic at hand, and will focus on actual understanding of the material. I would like to think that I am personable and that students can be themselves when we meet, with the simultaneous expectation that they be serious about improving their subject matter comprehension.
