My teaching method will be, firstly, to meet the specific needs of each student by consecrating the first session to a discussion of concrete and attainable goals, to set expectations on both ends about the amount of effort and time required, goalposts and markers to be reached within certain time frames, and personal interests and ambitions to tailor the lessons as necessary. I will ask students to put in as much effort as I will be, since the lessons will just as much be about the building of a relationship between us as it will about the acquisition of skills and the learning of content. If you're looking for someone who will care about you as a person and a student, look no further.
I am currently a graduate student in History at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS - School for Advanced Study in the Social Sciences) in Paris, France focusing on transnational relations between Southeast Asia, in particular Vietnam, and Japan. I received my Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in French Literature and the History of Art from Princeton University in 2014. I have several years of experience tutoring students from subjects as varied as French to Chemistry, at the high school as well as graduate level, and with working professionals. I'm interested in working with motivated students who want to work on their language skills in English, French, or Japanese, whether it's out of passion or obligation, though in the case of the latter my goal will be to move you towards the former. I am an absolute lover of languages and grammars, having learned, in addition to the three aforementioned languages, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, German, and beginning my studies in Vietnamese and Classical Chinese. I'm equally a lover of films and food—you're sure to find me in the kitchen or the cinema, if not in a library or bookstore. Having lived in a handful of countries (Japan, USA, France, Italy, Serbia, Portugal) and visited many more, I am always curious about the variety of ways we live, love, and learn.
