About Jonathan
My coaching focuses on building a strong NY salsa foundation, clean technique, and a natural feel for the dance. I have been in education for many years, so I understand that people learn in very different ways and at very different speeds.
I like to break things down clearly, explain the “why” behind the movement, and help you develop good habits from the start.
The aim is not just to memorise patterns, but to understand timing, connection, weight transfer and body movement so that your dancing feels more natural, confident and enjoyable.
I work with complete beginners, newer dancers who feel overwhelmed in group classes, couples who want to learn together, and leaders or followers who want to improve their technique and confidence.
I love dance, but I still remember how daunting it felt at the beginning. I often felt as though I had no real anchor, and it was difficult to know whether I was actually progressing from one class to the next. Some weeks, everything seemed to click; other weeks, it felt like I was doing everything wrong.
It was only when I started taking private lessons that things began to fall into place. Having the space to slow things down, ask questions and really understand the foundations helped me develop both my technique and my confidence.
I now teach group classes in Harlow, but I also want to offer more one-to-one support. That might be for someone who is struggling to keep up in classes and needs more individual guidance, or for a dancer who is ambitious and wants to develop their technique, confidence and overall quality of movement much more quickly.

Lessons are tailored to your level and the way you learn. We can slow things down, break movements apart and focus on the details that are often difficult to pick up in a busy class.
The aim is not just to know the steps, but to feel comfortable, connected and confident when you dance.
Your first 1-hour private session is free, with no pressure or commitment. Sessions are available in Chelmsford, either at my location or yours, with travel available for regular sessions where appropriate.
I have my own home studio, as dancing has become such a passion.
