About Jonathan
Hello, I am a full-time tutor in humanities subjects including history, geography and English. Due to the Coronavirus I am now offering lessons exclusively online for a reduced rate. I specialise in teaching GCSE, A-Level and university students through highly customised individual lessons. I’m also qualified as a foreign language teacher (TEFL) if you want to improve your spoken English.
My professional experience from tutoring in Scotland, Italy and Germany for the last five years enables me to teach very creatively and effectively. I completed a Master's degree in Literature and History at the University of St Andrews. I have firsthand familiarity with both the English and Scottish academic syllabuses. I also have extensive experience of preparing students for exams and coursework. If you are looking for a professional tutor to help revise or study new material online while schools are closed I am available immediately.

I have tutored high school and university students in Literature, History, Classics, Geography, Politics and professional skills for the last five years. My approach is to engage with each student personally to determine their own learning targets and weaknesses. Then I focus on developing their understanding by reading and discussing specific texts and multimedia resources which I customize in advance of the lesson. At first this approach improves student knowledge of the material and academic confidence. The more lessons we have to expand on this basis, the greater the impact of my "teaching through dialogue" method. I am happy to provide my own learning material or work through any resources assigned by schools during the COVID closure.
I am also skilled in providing deadline-focused tutoring such as writing essays or preparing for any job interview. I have a broad University education and experience of tutoring in humanities subjects for all levels. I have also worked with museums as a tour guide and as a freelance history writer. I am currently working full time from home so I am flexible regarding teaching times and frequency. Most importantly I have pedagogical training in teaching students one-on-one in a classroom environment. So I can provide a more professional and organised tutoring experience.

Jonathan is a very well organized and creative tutor who taught me a lot during my time with him. He has always found innovative ways to explore the wide range of history with me. All the little extra information he would provide was particularly good. The kind of knowledge that only a tutor with a lot of passion and expertise in his field knows how to convey. He helped and gave me a lot of advice on how to adapt my teaching skills. All the people I sent to him came back to me with amazing reviews and a new passion for history. I know that he successfully taught students of all ages, so I can say with great certainty that he is very adaptable and flexible. In conclusion, I can only highly recommend him as a tutor.
I met Jon at a language school. In this course he trained me in professional English and interview skills.
From the beginning I was infected by his enthusiasm. Always at eye level with the student and with great empathy he makes sure that his lessons lead to the intended learning effect.
Jon has a broad knowledge of many subjects and can therefore conduct deeper discussions without preparation. Especially for me as an art historian he was the perfect teacher. I perceived his lessons more as exciting discussions than as arduous learning.
Jon has the best requirements for a good, sensitive teacher, and I wish that many other students would have the opportunity to benefit from his style of teaching.View more recommendations
