different institutions in order to achieve the most complete

- What kind of experience do you have?

I started playing the drums at age 11. After my diploma I joined two different institutions in order to achieve the most complete education about music and performing arts: La Sapienza University and the Saint Louis College of Music. Those studies allowed me to attend classes of music theory (classical, pop and jazz), aural, music technology, music history, composition (jazz and pop), journalism, media, music business, performance workshops, piano guitar and drums lessons. At the same time I started my career as a drum tutor, music journalist and session musician. I moved to London in 2007, to complete my studies at the Drumtech where I got the three months master performance certificate.
In my employment history, I have worked in schools, music studios, TV studios, newspaper offices and councils and have collaborated with producers, teachers, managers, press executives and students. I also joined a wide range of bands, artist and live acts, covering all kinds of music styles (Blues, funk, disco, rock, jazz, metal etc.). All these experiences helped to improve my management and leadership skills, in particular with students and musicians.
At the moment, I am working as a drum tutor in London and collaborating with several bands and artists in the music industry for concerts, recording sessions, music theatre and tours (The Spindle Sect, Kenitsh Fire, Diministry, Dust me Down and Mr. Peculiar, The Council, Four Those About To Rock, Punching Preachers and Phoenix Theatre among the others).

ANDY TURCO
-Drummer-
PURPOSE:
Playing has always has to be about: sharing emotions, express feelings, have fun, being
curious, pushing musicians boundaries. Now the question is: how is possible matching
those aspects with a process like private music lessons, which involves concentration,
discipline, strength of will and efforts?
About My Lessons:
EARS FIRST:
Playing music is a process that needs to go through different parts in order to be achieved.
The first way to experience music is, of course, through listening. That’s how we decide to
start to learn an instrument, how we develop our musical preferences. Everything that we
want to work on, a rudiment, a song, a groove, a drum fill or a drum solo must pass to our
ears and must be put in a contest. Ears are ours input device that allows us to store all the
information that we need to become a better drummer, a better musician and a better
PERSON.
EXPAND YOUR LIBRARY
During my lessons, I give to my student a playlist of new tracks every week. That’s for
helping them to have a wide and complete music library where he can develop a good
knowledge of all the music styles and genres around: Pop, Funk, Rock, Hip Hop, Jazz,
Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, Metal, Punk, Drum’ n Bass, Electronic, Indie, Fusion, Classic, Lyric.
A good musician and a good music listener must have no boundaries and enjoy and
understand every kind of music
THINK GLOBAL, ACT LOCAL (FIND YOUR WAY) Encoding/ Use your Brain
Having a big and updated music library is a must have for any musicians. What we need to
do now is studying and analysing the music and work on the kit. Once again, as for the
listening part, a good musician must know how to play everything but, as everyone is
different and has a different approach, personality and music preference, is essential to
work in that direction to achieve a good way to earn a personal and professional sound
and skills.
NEXT, THE BRAIN:
All the data that we get from our ears, needs now to be processed. This part is important
to don't leave our limbs alone to deal with the job but having instead the knowledge
(especially in the reading and rudiments exercises) and the consciousness to fit that
particular element in a music contest. In this way even the most mechanical exercise can
find a musicality and his meaning for the student's ear.
THEN THE BODY:
Once that ears and mind are settled, we can start to work on the kit. Especially for the
beginners that could mean dealing with technique and reading exercise at first that may
leave the music and the musical part out for a bit, that's why I often allow some
exceptions with play along tracks that can help the young student to keep the interest in
the instrument while he's learning what he needs to play the same tunes with the proper
skills and vocabulary.
