About James
I graduated several years ago from Brunel University with a Degree 1st in Music. Since then I've been playing, writing and producing music non-stop, performing in original bands and wedding bands as well as a solo acoustic performer. Alongside this over the last 10 years I've enjoyed sharing my skills and knowledge with many students. Teaching is something I really enjoy. I'm naturally intuitive and aim to help students unlock their musical potential, while enjoying the journey and the sore fingers!

Tailored lessons to suit student's individual needs and abilities, covering music you want to learn. Lessons can involve theory, song learning, song-writing, ear training, lead guitar, rhythm guitar and much more. Guitar lessons I teach are designed to help new students get started or help experienced guitarists take their playing to the next level.
The exciting moment for beginners is turning a few chords into a song you know and love. Many years of teaching have shown me that moment of recognition is the spark that gets you fired up and on the path to what could be a lifelong passion. I will teach you the core principals from tuning up, to holding the pick or using the fingers, and learning the essential chords and rhythm techniques to get you on your way.
I make sure everything I teach can be practically applied to something that interests you. If it's a guitar scale for example we might combine it with a song of your choice while always relating it to the chord progression. Everything is taught in digestible segments at your own pace.
For the more advanced players you might be looking to understand the fretboard and the theory behind your playing or just improve your technique and dexterity. We can cover gaps in your learning going over all the fundamentals from triads to inversions, diminished chords and arpeggios, slash chords, 6, 9th 13th and sus chords to the caged system as well as applying the modes.

For those wishing to explore the art of songwriting:
Songwriting is about expressing yourself about topics that are important to you, which I can teach you to apply to any musical style or genre. Articulating these feelings, thoughts and impulses takes practice and commitment. I can help coax out these ideas and teach you the craft to further shape them into a fully formed song or segment.
Here's a track in the style of Americana, but like I said I cover all styles RnB, Pop, Dance, Folk, Rock and everything in-between! A good hook, melody or lyric can be adapted to any form.
