About Patti
Music has been a lifelong passion, and teaching it is one of my greatest pleasures. I have over 40 years of experience teaching piano and violin to students ranging in age from 3 to over 85, from beginners to advanced musicians.
I began studying piano and violin in the fourth grade and later returned to graduate school at age 39, earning a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance. My teaching experience includes private studios, public, private, charter, and preparatory schools, and a rehabilitation program for teenage boys.
I believe that effective teaching begins with understanding the individual student. Lessons are tailored to your musical goals, interests, learning style, abilities, and available practice time. Whether you're beginning for the first time, returning after years away from an instrument, or working toward more advanced repertoire, we'll develop a practical approach to help you make steady progress.
My instruction emphasizes sound technique, musical understanding, healthy playing habits, and the enjoyment of making music. I use traditional approaches to piano instruction and both traditional and Suzuki methods for violin. Over the years, I've learned that patience, creativity, and a sense of humor are just as valuable in teaching as musical knowledge.
Learning an instrument also provides remarkable benefits beyond music itself. Musical performance engages interconnected brain systems involved in hearing, movement, memory, attention, emotion, language, and spatial and mathematical processing. Few activities bring so many abilities together in quite the same way.
I encourage students to bring what I call the Three Ds: **Drive, Determination, and Dedication.** In return, I offer the experience, individual attention, encouragement, and commitment to help you achieve your goals.
Above all, I believe that learning music should be both rewarding and enjoyable.

*I maintain high standards for both my students and myself because I believe that good teaching should produce meaningful progress.
*We begin by discussing your musical goals, previous experience, learning style, and the amount of time you can realistically devote to regular practice. From there, I develop an individualized plan designed to help you progress at a pace that is both challenging and achievable.
*Depending on your instrument, level, and goals, lessons may include technique and technical exercises, scales, chords and inversions, arpeggios, études, music theory, and carefully selected repertoire. These elements are introduced as needed to develop efficient, healthy playing habits, technical proficiency, musical understanding, and confidence.
*Classical music forms the foundation of my teaching, but I also incorporate popular music, jazz, folk, and contemporary styles according to each student's interests. Your musical preferences matter, and I want you to enjoy the music you're learning.
I believe that corrections should always be constructive, never punitive. Students learn best in an atmosphere of mutual respect, patience, encouragement, and humor. We take the work seriously without making lessons unnecessarily solemn.
*I use traditional methods for piano and violin, as well as Suzuki approaches for violin. My background includes 12 graduate credit hours of Suzuki-method study. But, rather than adhering rigidly to a single method, I select teaching strategies that best serve each student's needs.
*My students have given me excellent reviews, and I'm happy to provide references from current and former students.
*All you need to bring are **Desire, Discipline, and Determination**—and, of course, a working instrument!

Perfect! Patti has been my piano teacher for the last three months. I appreciate her systematic approach to teaching music, so that I always know where we are going. She is helpful in solving the problems every music student encounters, and moreover is patient and encouraging. She also has extensive musical knowledge and a great library of sheet music.
Perfect! We travel over thirty minutes for lessons with Ms. Patti because she’s such an exceptional teacher. Her patience with my son, who has ADHD, is endless, and she uses creative methods, like creating music notes from pool noodles, to engage and keep his attention. Thanks to her unique approach, he’s made great progress in his lessons!
Perfect! Pati gives individualized lessons based on your goals and what styles of music you want to learn. I am an adult student who has been taking lessons with Pati for 3 years. I previously took lessons as a teen and can tell you that Pati is by far the best piano teacher I have ever had.
Perfect! Music lessons with Patti are always enjoyable and amazing! She’s very approachable and always given useful tips on my violin lessons!
Perfect! She is responsive to my interests as an older student. She is teaching me the nuances of playing. She is easy to get along with. Has such a wealth of knowledge.
Perfect! Patti is an accomplished professional who is approachable and encouraging. She is able to meet a student at their own level, and maintains a positive atmosphere and a good sense of humor. Patti is able to supply/suggest interesting pieces of music that a beginner can play.
Perfect! She's very kind and knows what's she's doing. She has a lot of experience and knows how to mix things up and make them better.
Perfect! Am still taking lessons from Patti and hope to continue for a long time. She is the kind of teacher who plays the way she feels I might best learn-and I do learn. Can't say enough GREAT words about her!
Perfect! Great!
Perfect! Patti is very pleasant and knowledgeable, and instructs in a supportive way (lots of positive reinforcement). As an older student (older than Patti!), I appreciate feeling on equal ground with my teacher - we are able to communicate very comfortably. She also has provided me with many tips for effective practicing.
Perfect! Patti is exactly what I was looking for in a piano teacher! I'm 30 years old and have frustratingly tried every online course and method available. Patti was immediately able to give feedback on all of the things a computer never could, like technique, form, and sound. She is SO knowledgeable about all things music, and you can tell she is very passionate about sharing that knowledge with others. I've been taking lessons with her for about two months now and highly recommend her!

She is knowledgeable, kind and seems to know how to adjust to my learning style.
I guess everyone has a few things they wish they could have done and since I grew up with very musical friends, I thought at retirement I might try and obtain my wish: to play the piano. When I found out that Ms. Brimberry was still teaching and conducting classes online, I signed up immediately. Ms. Brimberry taught one of my daughters piano and one violin. Twenty years later, as professionals with children, they still find time to play. Isn't that the mark of a good teacher? My wife also plays piano, and she says through Ms. Brimberry's guidance I am progressing rapidly. So if a 70 year old can do this, you can too. So next year I hope to put Bach's Prelude in C Major on my Facebook page. Nothing like checking a box on the old bucket list!

My fees are based on my 60 years of teaching experience on two instruments — piano and violin — and years of orchestral, solo, and small-ensemble performance experience in numerous settings. At present, I've adjusted my rates downward to account for economic inflation.
I've taught in public, private, and charter schools, in church programs, and in Music Preparatory schools, as well as in my own music school and, of course, my private studio, in professional and educational settings. I teach private piano and violin lessons, and group classes for strings. My own performance experience includes solo recitals, orchestral, chamber, and small-ensemble work, as well as years of accompanying other instrumentalists, vocalists, church and school choirs, and Suzuki group violin classes.
I also possess a large music library with extensive piano, violin, and orchestral music; music history, theory, and technical references; and various method books for both instruments, as well as Jazz and Pop piano collections. We can always find music in styles and from eras that fit your tastes AND still satisfy my assigned technical and musical goals. I even have a good collection of Bluegrass music.
