I have been taking French from Brigitte for 8 years and highly recommend her to anyone who wants to learn or improve their French. The first experience I had of her style was in a group setting of teen-adult students. Right away Brigitte launched us into thinking in French, not merely translating into French, through the use of creative games and interesting conversations. The students in our group varied in natural aptitude for language learning, but no one was left behind — Brigitte’s ability to explain and model French brought success to all of us. Brigitte uses the interests of her students to increase their vocabulary and usage, so that the French they learn is practical. I had the great good fortune of being one of Professor Chase’s students over several years while I pursued my BA in French Language at Western Oregon University. Her classes were, by far, the best I had in all of my undergraduate years. Her classes were animated and all of us had a great time speaking French with her and with each other. None of my other classes ever had us so engaged and learning so much at the same time. The topics were interesting and her teaching methods were natural and fun. As a result, we all developed a great connection with Professor Chase and with each other. It was really unforgettable. If you have the opportunity to become one of her students, take it!

I have known Brigitte for over 20 years. She was my French teacher for three years when I lived in Salem, OR. During the 2020 Covid year, I asked her to become my teacher again; I plan to never stop being her pupil. Brigitte is a wonderful instructor. She has not only the qualifications, but also has qualities such as patience, the ability to encourage and engage students at all levels and all ages, and the rare ability to make learning fun. We have moved beyond only textbook learning; we have studied Le Petit Prince and are now studying a text about Pleine Conscience (Mindfulness). As a senior citizen, my interest in learning French is two-fold: I want the satisfaction of seeing my progress with the language, but I also see the work as protecting my mental functioning. I wholeheartedly recommend Brigitte to anyone with an interest in learning to speak French.

Brigitte is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructor who makes learning French fun! Her passion for learning clearly shines through her teaching. I took the best class of my life from her— it was a class of homeschooled kids, ranging from grade-schoolers to teenagers and even including some adults/parents. She created an environment that was interactive and made learning fun for all the ages, while fostering meaningful friendships amidst classmates. Everyone was able to learn together, yet at an appropriate level for their ability. I will forever have the best memories of that once-in-a-lifetime class!
