About Nathalie

My name is Nathalie Gribinski, and I am a French-American professional artist and graphic designer based in Chicago. For more than thirty years, I have worked in both fine art and graphic design, building a career that combines creativity, visual communication, and technical expertise.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Columbia College Chicago and have worked on projects ranging from branding and publications to advertising and digital media. Alongside my design career,

I have continuously developed my fine art practice. My work has been exhibited in galleries, collected internationally, and is represented on many online art platforms.

After many years of developing my own creative practice, I wanted to share that experience with others through individual art and graphic design lessons.

I especially enjoy working with children because they bring imagination, freedom, and curiosity to art. Picasso famously said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” That idea strongly reflects my approach to teaching. I want children to feel free to explore color, shapes, materials, and their own ideas without being afraid of making mistakes.

My art lessons encourage experimentation and self-expression while gently introducing artistic techniques and new ways of seeing. Students can discover and experiment with a variety of materials, including charcoal, pencil, ink, oil markers, acrylics, pastels, and watercolor. Rather than following a rigid program, I adapt the lessons to each student’s interests, personality, and creative curiosity.

For students interested in graphic design, I offer lessons in composition, typography, color, visual communication, and the principal Adobe design programs, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Lessons are adapted to each student’s age, interests, experience, and goals.

Whether I am working with a child discovering art for the first time or an adult wanting to develop their artistic or graphic design skills, I bring patience, enthusiasm, decades of professional creative experience, and a genuine passion for helping others grow creatively.

I prefer to teach in my Printer’s Row studio, where students can work in a comfortable creative environment surrounded by art. A wide range of professional art materials is available for students to explore and use during their lessons.

Art and design have been central to my life for more than thirty years. As a professional artist and graphic designer, I have learned that creativity isn’t a mysterious talent reserved for a few—it is something we can explore, practice, and develop at any age.

My lessons combine the freedom of fine art with the foundations of strong visual communication. Depending on your interests, we may explore charcoal, pencil, ink, oil markers, acrylics, pastels, watercolor, drawing, color, and composition. For students interested in graphic design, lessons can also include Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, as well as typography, layout, and visual communication.

Rather than simply learning techniques, students discover how color creates emotion, how composition guides the eye, how different materials can change the way we express an idea, and how visual choices communicate.

My lessons are open to children and adults, from complete beginners to people with previous art or design experience. I especially enjoy working with children because of the curiosity, imagination, and freedom they bring to the creative process. I encourage experimentation, playing with materials, inventing images, and developing confidence without worrying about making something “perfect.”

For adults and students with previous experience, lessons can focus on strengthening artistic or technical skills, developing a portfolio, improving graphic design abilities, exploring new materials, or reconnecting with creativity after time away from art.

I do not teach students to paint or design like me. My role is to share the tools, knowledge, and experience I have developed throughout my professional career while helping each student discover their own way of seeing and their own visual language. Every lesson is tailored to the student’s goals, pace, interests, and learning style.

We can explore observation, color, composition, rhythm, balance, visual storytelling, and creative problem-solving in a relaxed and encouraging environment where experimentation and discovery are an important part of learning.

Whether you want to develop your skills as an artist or designer, help your child discover the joy of art, or simply experience the pleasure of creating, my goal is to give you the tools, confidence, and curiosity to continue developing creatively on your own.

Details

My lessons are one-to-one and personalized to each student’s age, interests, experience, and creative goals.

For younger students, I make art playful and engaging while introducing them to a variety of materials and techniques, including charcoal, pencil, ink, oil markers, acrylics, pastels, and watercolor. I encourage children to trust their imagination, experiment freely, and enjoy the creative process instead of worrying about making something “perfect.”

For adults and students interested in graphic design, lessons can be adapted to specific artistic or professional goals and may include Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

A wide range of professional art materials is available for students to use during their lessons and is included in the rate. Specific materials or projects can also be discussed in advance according to the student’s interests.
A parent or guardian is always welcome to stay during a child’s lesson.
