About Ben
I am a professional classical clarinettist currently studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. I have a particular passion for orchestral and chamber music and have performed extensively in both, including as Principal Bass Clarinet in the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra and as Principal Clarinet and Bass Clarinet in various opera productions.
At Guildhall, I study with professional clarinettists including Andrew Webster, James Burke and Robert Ault. I also study historical clarinets with Katherine Spencer.
I enjoy helping other people discover the enjoyment of playing the clarinet. Whether you're a complete beginner, working towards an exam, or an experienced player looking to develop your playing further, I aim to make lessons enjoyable while helping you build a strong technical and musical foundation.
Alongside my performing, I have experience in music education and outreach through my chamber group, delivering workshops and performances in primary schools and at centres for young musicians, working with students up to the age of 18.
I hold an Enhanced DBS check and am happy to teach children, young people and adults.

My main aim as a teacher is to help each student progress as quickly as possible while developing a genuine love of music and the clarinet. I am very happy to prepare students for grades and diplomas, but exams are by no means mandatory.
Lessons are tailored to each student and their individual goals. Depending on what you need, we might work on technique, sight-reading, confidence, musical expression or repertoire. I also place emphasis on duet playing as a part of lessons when useful, helping students develop ensemble skills, listening and musicianship from an early stage.
For more advanced students, I am also happy to teach bass clarinet and Eb clarinet and will push students as hard as they would like!
For students working towards graded exams, I am happy to incorporate theory and aural training into lessons where helpful. And any help with GCSE or A level exams!
