Professional costume designer can teach sewing, pattern making, costume crafts, costume rendering, consult on cosplay ideas, stage makeup and costume design

I believe in breaking down techniques into bite-sized pieces that can be easily tackled. Gradually we cover more and more complex techniques until the end result is something truly wonderful! I like to create an environment where you feel comfortable asking any question. It's okay to stumble and make mistakes because that's how you learn.

I’ve been working as a professional costumer for 25 years. I’ve been sewing for about 45 years (thanks Mom!) Here’s my bio:
DeAnna Rowe received her MFA in Costume Design and Technology from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. She has taught at the University of Florida, University of Memphis, DeSales University, Ohio University and The Art Institute of Hollywood. Her teaching specialties are Costume Technology including Costume Construction, Flat Patterning, Draping, Millinery, Dye Techniques, Stage Makeup and Costume Crafts.
Some of DeAnna’s favorite professional collaborations include Tennessee Shakespeare Company, South Coast Repertory Theatre, Missouri Repertory Theatre, Kansas City Ballet, American Players Theatre, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Delicate Illusions, and Glimmerglass Opera. DeAnna recently enjoyed the opportunity to work with the William Ivey Long Studios recreating the Broadway costumes for the touring production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
“Gypsy Dream Studios is my passion business where I design and create high-end one of a kind costumes to help my clients explore their inner Superheroes and Unconventional Wedding Dreams. The words Cosplay, Steampunk, Renaissance, Trekkies, and Gothic Lolita have been used to describe what I do. If that doesn’t bring up a visual image for you, you can see for yourself at (concealed information)

The first FREE lesson will be a consultation to help determine your needs for the class or project. You may need to gather supplies for your project or do some preliminary planning or prep before we get started on the actual project and we can determine all that in the first session. We can also talk about how to break your project into individual classes and how many you will need. You will always be able to add more sessions if the original estimates don't allow you enough time to finish your project. In between classes I am happy to answer small questions via email that may otherwise keep you from continuing on your project.

I took Mask Making and Costume Design from DeAnna at the University of Memphis. She is great at teaching a group with an awareness for the individual needs of each student. Her enthusiasm for your project or design gives you the courage to think outside of the box. Beyond that her own work reveals a demand for perfection that is infectious. I'd love to take another class from her.

DeAnna is so skilled, kind, and determined. She gives her student the tools and help to succeed! When I was in the Costume Shop learning from her, I gained more knowledge in that year then I ever had before. She is an amazing teacher and person!
