First step to my teaching approach is to assess the students for aptitude talent preferred instrument level and desired genre of music then I select the best and appropriate instructional materials from books to sheet music and/or recordings to insure that the student is developing and progressing in the proper manner my recomend instructional time duration varies from 30 min to 45 min up to an hour depending on the students playing experience and level of ability.
