About Ryan

I am a professional musician that performs nationally as a session and touring musician with artists, corporate bands and tribute shows. Noteworthy performances include BBC Breakfast, Eurovision events, various national O2 Academies and major UK festivals including YNot and Truck festival. I have a wealth of experience performing and working with different projects including tribute shows which in the past 12 months have included theatre tours of tribute shows to Gladys Knight, Robbie Williams, Dionne Warwick and Whitney Houston.

I have a studied music at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts and previously spent 3 years working as a vocational tutor for the Extended Diploma in Music courses at the City of Oxford and Reading colleges. Having studied music through self learning, formal training and extensive teaching, I am able to apply these experiences to a unique teaching approach to support the needs of the student.

I have firsthand experiences with requirements for neurodivergent people; in particular people with diagnosis of ADHD and ASD. This understanding is something that can aid in tailoring my teaching style to bring out the best in their confidence and see it as a superpower.

I have a passion for learning and fostering a growth mindset in students. Applying this to the teaching styles is key to empowering students to further their learning and structure their own approach to all facets of life beyond music.

About the lesson

With 18 years of experience playing guitar and 3 years of teaching an extended diploma music course at college prior to my own degree studies at LIPA, I have a wealth of varied experience in teaching relevant experience both as a professional musician and as a teacher. Lessons are to be tailored to the needs of the student and can cover a range of topic areas for players of all experience levels. Every student has unique aims and existing skills which should be identified and worked with, rather than to a fixed curriculum. This way we can ensure the lessons are as engaging and motivating for individual needs. This could be learning the very basics of playing the instrument to learning particular songs or expanding your improvisational skills. Developing your music theory skills, your composition/songwriting with the guitar or coaching your music career/project development or coaching are other areas that could be covered.

The main aim will be to tailor the content of the lessons to your needs and goals.

With first hand experience with neurodivergence, I have a wealth of experience in understanding the differences in requirements for the students and am able to use this in order to tailor the lessons to bring out the best in the students unique needs.
