About Stephen
My professional experience with the trombone began in the Navy when I was assigned to the Sixth Fleet Band in the Mediterranean Sea. We toured all over southern Europe, creating goodwill for Uncle Sam. Our musical preparation began at the Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia, practicing and performing ten hours a day for eight months. We spent hundreds of hours in practice rooms, honing our skills. My fondness for the trombone began early, back in fifth grade. I've loved it all these years because the trombone (like the violin) expresses such a wide range of human emotions. Teaching my students how to enjoy that experience is my goal.

My lessons conform to the student's learning style and take the student incrementally and in manageable steps from where they are to the next accomplishment in skill and technique. There's always a sense of achievement at the end, plus a clear understanding on what to work on for next time.
A typical lesson plan has three parts:
1. The student demonstrates what they learned since our last meeting.
2. The student is shown the next step in achievement which builds on what they have learned.
3. The student practices this with me using duets or playing solo with a professional background accompanying him.
My students are mostly beginners through intermediate level performers. They are the most fun and the quickest learners.
