About Braden
As I mentioned in the last section, I completed a Master's Degree in history at Indiana University in 2019. Indiana is one of the most highly-regarded public universities in the United States, and its graduate programs in history and the other humanities disciplines are respected internationally.
During my time at IU, I had the privilege to study with globally-renowned historians whose range of teaching and writing was vast. Under their tutelage, I learned how to conduct professional historical research and writing. This approach involves the gathering and sifting of evidence, careful argumentation, and great rigor.
However, the professional historian's toolkit would not be complete without a generous supply of creative, original thought. I hope to inspire in you a love of history that will help you to see this subject not as dry and dull, but as fascinating and even moving.

Studying history should amount to more than just reciting names and dates--that basic knowledge is essential, but it only gets you part of the way there.
I completed the MA in United States History at Indiana University in 2019. As a professionally-trained historian, I can provide an approach to history different from what most high school students have seen before. I will help you to see history for what it really is: the fascinating, epic, engrossing story of how our world, in all its beauty and tragedy, came to be.
My area of focus is the history of the United States, but I am also knowledgeable in medieval and early modern Europe. My lessons are mostly geared to young adult students: juniors and seniors in high school, and college students.
A typical lesson might begin with a short primary source document or a picture of an artifact (for example). We will ask ourselves, what can this document (or artwork, piece of material culture, etc.) teach us about the time we are studying? What makes it unique or commonplace? How does "life back then" lead us to "life right now"?
