About Michaela
Having grown up in a multilingual, multicultural household (english and spanish) and educated in France, languages and travel have always been a major part of my life. As a consequence I am not only trilingual, I am also a-tuned to language learner's needs to achieve fluency.
My academic areas of specialty revolve around language education and the arts with a Masters of Education from Université Lyon 2 (France) in English as a Second Language + Post-Graduate Certificate in Education in Modern Foreign Languages, and a Masters of Arts from Dartmouth College in Comparative Literature.
With 8 years teaching experience at schools and universities in England, France and the United States, my guarantee to you, dear learner, is high quality instruction that leaves you satisfied.

In my teacher training, I learned of many learning theories by psychologists and philosophers from L.Vygotski , to J.Piaget , to J.Dewey ; but my all time favorite figures of the educational landscape are the rebels of education: Maria Montessori for her self-paced, holistic approach to learning, and the lesser known Sir Ken Robinson for his critical thinking on educational paradigms.
In my experience, there are many approaches to teaching and learning. In Europe, I was trained to use the Communicative approach and the Action based approach that both locate language learning within societal constructs, focusing on communicative tasks that stem from the learner's needs. In America, I worked with a unique Behaviourist approach called the Rassias Method that hinges on repeated exposure to grammatical structures with a classic stimulus-response model.
While there is no one-size-fits-all method, I do believe in the importance of authentic interactions and of repeated exposure. I also firmly believe that you can only learn if you feel engaged in the process and take ownership of it. My approach is a blend of all these and more. My classes are as tailored as possible to your needs, your interests, your personality.
