About Amy
Qualified Mandarin teacher with over nine years’ teaching experience in the UK, currently working at an independent school in England. I have been teaching Mandarin from beginner, GCSE and IGCSE, A-Level and Pre-U up to undergraduate level. I am also a Cambridge GCSE Chinese and A-Level Chinese examiner. I have the PGCE with QTS, MFL Mandarin and French, University of Portsmouth (2016), MSc Sustainable Development and Global Quality Management, Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (2012), and BA (Hons) Chinese Language and Literature, Henan University (2010). To update my educational philosophy, I am also studying for a Master’s degree in Education at Institute of Education, UCL.

Since gaining my Chinese and English Qualified Teacher Status, I have taught Mandarin in the UK and online. I really enjoy teaching, because I think the most important thing particularly about learning Mandarin is enjoyment and I really like to tailor my lessons to suit your needs, motivations and your interests. I love to talk and encourage my students to ask questions. As a Chinese language and literature teacher in the UK, I am also a grammar and linguistics specialist, so I can provide specific and tailored help to suit your grammar and vocabulary needs as well as general conversations in various ranges of topics. I have an excellent track record in improving students’ fluency and confidence with using Mandarin in real-life situations. And I really enjoy seeing my students improve from where they started often in a short period of time. In addition, I have lots of experience in preparing students for different exam boards, for instance, Edexcel GCSE, Cambridge IGCSE, HSK, YCT, and Cambridge Pre-U Chinese. I am also experienced in helping students with university courses or professional needs, such as business Chinese.

Perfect! I was very impressed by Amy's teaching style and material. Her lessons are accompanied by a a text- & workbook and tasks which she tailors to your needs and request. After our first free lesson, she was happy to continue chatting with me for another half hour to talk about my language goals and answer my questions. She will not only teach you the language but also the culture and country that come with it which was a deciding factor when chosing her as my tutor. Looking forward to my next lessons with her already!
