About Andrea

He began his musical training as a child, with the acoustic guitar. In 2012 he attended the Academy of Sound in Milan studying jazz guitar with Luca Meneghello. In 2013 he became passionate about traditional American music and since then he has started a research and study work that continues today. Thanks to Massimo Gatti he approaches the Bluegrass mandolin and later thanks to his son, Icaro, he starts playing the 5 string Banjo, first with the Three Finger Style technique, which he subsequently leaves to deepen the Clawhammer. With the study of the latter style he understands that Old Time music is the one in which he manages to express himself more with this instrument. Since 2016 with Shiver Folk, his main band, he has collaborated with Davide Van De Sfroos, which takes the form of the FOLKCooperaTour for which he has chosen Shiver as his band of musicians. On June 9, 2017 Shiver, together with Gnola Blues Band and Luf play at the San Siro Stadium as Davide's band, with more than 20,000 spectators present. In 2017 he began an intense live activity with the duo Old Timey with Stefano Mr. Bigoni with whom in 2020 he recorded the first album "HOLLERS". Since 2018 he is a member of Folkamiseria, he has also collaborated, both in the studio and live, with various bands of the Italian Folk panorama including I Luf. He is a teacher of banjo and mandolin at the Saronno Musical Tree.

About the lesson

THEORY: The basics of harmony, the essential things useful above all to better understand what you are doing with your fingers, and that can be useful when you decide to play with someone else, and I wish you. In my opinion the Banjo, like many other traditional instruments (let's say so), is an instrument that should be mainly played, I know you are thinking that I say an obvious but it is not so, my goal will be above all to make you develop a feeling with the instrument, to make you want to play ... not to study. We will then be able to talk about it better and I will make you understand why I think so. PRACTICE: We will obviously start with learning the Clawhammer technique, paying close attention to time and trying to develop a groove with ourselves right from the start. Once we have learned the movement we will start by listening and studying Fiddle Tunes and when you have mastered the melody we will think of rhythmic and melodic embellishments and do a little harmonic analysis. We will see the chords in the various tunings then the tones in which they allow you to play. And we will play ... we will play a lot, we will do Jam (if you can define it like this) and we will make a lot of mess with these beautiful and very noisy Banjos.
