Because of my love of literature and comprehension, I enjoy getting into a good book and helping students that are struggling with the subject matter and understanding what the author is trying to convey. Recently, I tutored a high school student who was taking a college level English Literature class and was stressing over the material and questions on her final. She had not even read the material as she was so anxious about the exam. Within 3 days we read Hamlet by William Shakespeare and she gained a deeper understanding of Shakespeare and felt really good about herself. She was able to respond accordingly to the essay questions on her final exam with great confidence and an introduction to college literature and writing.
As an English major I am a prolific reader and enjoy nothing more than to curl up with a good book. I take a great interest in a critical analysis of a piece of literature and pick it apart until my students understand what the author is trying to tell us. For example, as an 8th grade English teacher I introduced Shakespeare's play MacBeth and my students had a blast acting out the play so that they could understand the language and realize that Shakespeare's writing is really quite interesting. This 8th grade class was mesmerized by a corrupt king, gory battles, witches and triumph of good over evil. I also have experience with European Literature and American Literature.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English, graduating cum laude, in May 2002. While in college I held many leadership positions in Student Government and the Honors Program.
