About Stephen

I love to share my passion for singing through teaching. As well as being a qualified teacher, I lead a busy and active life as a professional singer.

My training: I am a qualified singing teacher with a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music. I have studied at the Royal Academy of Music, the University of Cambridge and in Vienna at the University of Music and Performing Arts. I speak German and Italian, and I have a good working knowledge of French - three key languages for classical singing! I am a good pianist (Grade 8 Distinction) and am able to accompany you while you sing or record learning-tracks to help you get to grips with a new song.

My teaching style is holistic. I do not draw a big distinction between technique and artistry, as I think that a good technique will allow you to be more expressive and more artistic in performance. True singing leads us to the core of our being, and I always feel privileged when a student lets me join them on that journey!

About the lesson

Whether you're dreaming of a career as a singer or simply enjoy it as a hobby, you've come to the right place!

Our lessons will be tailored to your needs and wishes. A typical lesson will include technical exercises, work on repertoire and an ongoing dialogue about your voice. I will draw on my musical and linguistic expertise, as well as my experience performing, to help you realise your musical and artistic potential.

In our first lesson, I will lead you through some exercises which will help me get to know your voice. I will then suggest specific repertoire which we can work on in later lessons. I can help you to prepare for graded exams, for example with ABRSM, or for applications to a music college.

As a competent pianist, I can also provide learning tracks for songs, to help you learn music at home.
