About Juliet
For more than 25 years, I have had two parallel careers as a singer and a teacher. I'm convinced that I would not want one to exist without the other: being a singer makes me a better teacher, and being a teacher makes me a better singer. I'm fortunate to have worked in both classical music -- opera, oratorio, and recital -- as well as in musical theatre on three continents. I value deeply the time that I have had to perform and teach abroad. I have a diverse background in classical music, starting as a child as a pianist, working for more than a decade as a professional violist, and eventually settling into a career in singing. I also have an extensive background as a dancer and in the creation and performance of all types of theatre. I am a polyglot and love using my knowledge of foreign languages to help my students improve their own pronunciation and cultural understanding of the music they are creating. Since 2011, I have been a specialist in Chinese art song. It has led me to perform extensively in China and abroad at some of the globe's most celebrated halls. My book, Singing in Mandarin, published in 2020, is the first text to teach non-native speakers how to sing in Mandarin. That material has also formed the basis for my PhD work. It has led me to lead workshops all over the world for singers and institutions interested in learning about this beautiful repertoire and exploring song beyond the Euro-centric borders. It has also led me to work extensively with native-speaking Chinese singers learning to sing in standard operatic languages. I am proud that my work as a performer and teacher sits at the intersection of all of these practices, styles, cultures, and languages. My experiences living, studying, and singing abroad have given me a unique perspective on how music can foster curiosity and create connections everywhere. I am proud that these are the tenets I strive to instil in my students during their learning. Whether they go on to sing in the most prestigious institutions and theatres in the world, or choose another path, I know that this curiosity, connection, and empathy will lead them to success on many levels.

West London and online lessons for serious singers in classical music and musical theatre. - 25 years of experience in teaching; currently pursuing a PhD in vocal pedagogy at the Royal College of Music - I have 25 years of experience as a professional singer in opera and musical theatre on three continents - I have recently had students successfully pass ABRSM and Trinity exams, been admitted into such schools as Shanghai Conservatory of Music, RCM (London), and won national and international art song competitions - I offer 60-120 minute lessons for singers of all ages and levels who are committed to their vocal growth - I take a holistic approach to teaching, including breathwork and alignment based on my own experience as a singer, dancer, and actor. - My teaching is science-based and student-focused: I know what works and am committed to finding what works for the individual singer.
