About Jennie
Hello! My name is Jennie. I began my formal piano training at 19 years old (yes, you read that right), and I am now a Doctorate of Musical Arts candidate and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts, studying with prominent pianist Dr. Vladimir Valjarević. I also hold Bachelor of Arts degrees in Philosophy and in Music from Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame; a Master of Music and a Performance Diploma from the University of Denver, where I studied with American pianist Dr. Steven Mayer. I am also a Steinway Educational Partner.
I have taken masterclasses with great classical pianists such as Jerome Lowenthal, Julian Martin, Gilbert Kalish, and Jerome Rose. My performances have won competitions such as the MTNA Stecher-Horowitz Two Piano Competition, the Valletta International Piano Competition, and the Mason Gross Chamber Music Competition. My performances have taken me to stages across the country, including the State Theatre New Jersey, the Gates Concert Hall, and the Hampden Hall in Colorado.
I began teaching roughly 7 years ago as a graduate assistant for Dr. Steven Mayer, and I have since taught over hundreds of students of all ages and levels across the United States.
I decided to devote my life to the piano at age 19 because I felt performing music gave my life meaning in a way I had never experienced before. And because of my unconventional piano background, I have had to devise many ways to learn and progress on this notoriously difficult instrument as efficiently as possible. Mastering the piano is a rocky journey and I know exactly what it's like to study with teachers who aren't suited for you. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance to me that my teaching plan is best suited for each student, and that the joy of playing music is never absent in my lessons, no matter what level you are, no matter what your musical goals are.

My approach to your piano studies is tailored to what you hope to achieve from your lessons. I have taught classical piano, music history, and music theory to college-level piano major students, pre-professionals, young beginners, and adult hobbyists.
I welcome anyone at any level to study with me, as long as you are committed, respectful, and open to challenging yourself in this journey :)
During my lessons, I will make sure you're progressing at a rate you're satisfied with, and that you are always experiencing the joy of making music -- something that I live for.

Jennie is one of the most dedicated people I have ever met. Her teaching style is engaging and effective. My son started to play the piano 4 years ago but like any child, eventually started to lose interest. Practicing the piano started to feel like a chore to him and he wanted to quit. I believed he had talent and kept looking for other teachers that might help change his mind. It wasn’t until I was introduced to Jennie two years ago and asked her to work with him, that he finally found purpose in learning piano and has started to perform regularly. I highly recommend her!
Since knowing Jennie in 2018, I have personally witnessed her growth as a musician and teacher. I believe it would be an understatement to say she is a seasoned and enthusiastic pianist.
Jennie is a sensational, kind, patient and incredibly knowledgeable teacher. I contracted her to teach my five year old daughter piano lessons and have remained with her ever since. I’ve never seen my little girl enjoy music making and she’s always super excited whenever lesson time rolls around. I would recommend Jennie to anyone who wants to further their/their child’s musical development in a fun, interesting and rewarding kind of way!
