About Sophie

I am a professional accordion player with 13+ years' experience touring internationally and on the West End. I came to the accordion through folk music while simultaneously training as a classical choral singer. As such I have multiple ways in which we can access the instrument depending on what is most comfortable for you. The accordion is a powerful, beautiful instrument but it can be overwhelming to tackle on your own. With very few conventional routes to access accordion playing in the UK I love teaching the accordion to spread confidence and access to this versatile instrument!

About the lesson

The piano accordion is an instrument that can do so much! But with very limited learning opportunities it can be hard to progress. I teach a variety of styles from folk to pop! The most important thing is that you enjoy the music you are playing! I love teaching all levels: - Absolute beginners - if you can't make head or tail of the instrument then I can help you! - Intermediate - if you have started picking out tunes on the right hand and accompanying yourself on the left then I can work on your musicality and flow as well as unlocking the bass. - Advanced - we can work on broadening your repertoire and looking at areas of your playing you want to work on! Many accordion players come from unconventional musical backgrounds and that can mean that you have picked up the instrument without ever having played anything before or had any contact with music theory and notation. If you'd like to learn how to read music I can help you! Equally as I come from both a classical and folk background we can also learn by ear. I'm very happy to adapt to whatever you need to get you to your goal!
