As a professional singer and keyboardist with six years of industry experience, my teaching philosophy is rooted in a belief that music education should be a balance of structured learning, creative exploration, and performance readiness. My goal isn't just to teach scales and songs; it's to cultivate well-rounded musicianship that lasts a lifetime. I focus on building a strong foundation while adapting lessons to the unique goals and learning styles of each student. Vocal Technique: For singing, I emphasize breath control (diaphragmatic support), vocal placement, and achieving a balanced mix across your range. I use targeted exercises to improve pitch, tone, and vocal stamina. Practical Application: For the keyboard, I move quickly from theoretical concepts to playing. This includes learning proper finger technique, understanding chord progressions (harmony), and applying these to popular songs, classical pieces, or film music. Improvisation & Creativity: A significant component involves teaching students how to improvise on the keyboard and how to stylize a song vocally, enabling them to truly own the music they perform. The Structure of a Typical Class would be: A 60-minute class is typically divided into three balanced segments: Warm-up & Technique (15 mins): Singers: Vocal exercises focusing on breath support, range extension, and agility. Keyboardists: Finger dexterity drills, scales, and arpeggios. Theory & Application (20 mins): Introducing a new concept (e.g., a time signature, a new chord type, or a vocal riff). Immediate application of this concept to a short exercise or phrase on the instrument/voice. Repertoire & Performance (25 mins): Working through a selected song or piece of music. This is where we focus on musicality, dynamics, and performance nuance. We often record small sections to allow students to hear their progress and self-critique. My classes are designed to be flexible and beneficial for students across different stages of life and skill levels: School Children (Ages 8+): Building fundamental skills in a fun, encouraging environment. Focus is on discipline, ear training, and reading music. College-Level Students: Ideal for those looking to prepare for music entrance exams, auditions, or seeking to deepen their understanding of music theory and performance. Adult Learners: Perfect for adults of all ages, from complete beginners fulfilling a lifelong dream to experienced musicians looking to refine a specific skill (e.g., improvisation or advanced theory). I welcome anyone with passion and dedication who is ready to take their musical abilities to the next level.
