About Joe

I’m a professional trombonist, composer, and educator active across the London and international music scenes. A First-Class Honours graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (BMus Jazz Performance – Trombone, 2020), I specialise in jazz and improvised music, while my experience spans classical, contemporary, and popular genres. As a performer, I’m a member of the Mercury Prize-nominated SEED Ensemble, The New Regency Orchestra, and the Dan Casimir Big Band. I’ve collaborated with world-class artists and organisations including the BBC Concert Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra (LSO), London Contemporary Orchestra (LCO), Jason Moran, Olivia Dean, Black Midi, and Rex Orange County, among many others. My performances have taken me to renowned stages such as Glastonbury (Pyramid Stage), the BBC Proms, Ronnie Scott’s, Berlin Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, and Dizzy’s Club (NYC). Alongside my performance career, I’m deeply committed to music education. My professional experience as a peripatetic tutor and workshop leader has allowed me to inspire and mentor young musicians across the UK. I bring the same energy, creativity, and professionalism from my performing life into my teaching—helping students build confidence, develop individuality, and enjoy music at every level. My dual career as a performer and teacher enables me to guide students along any musical path they wish to pursue. Through my lessons, I aim to share the creativity, discipline, and joy that music has brought to my own life, and to help each student reach their full potential in a supportive and engaging environment.

My brass lessons are engaging, supportive, and tailored to each student’s goals, interests and learning style. I teach trombone to all levels—from complete beginners to Grade 8 and professional level—and to all ages from 8 upwards. Lesson lengths typically range from 30 to 60 minutes or longer, depending on the student’s needs and focus areas. I use a variety of methods in my teaching—including notation reading, learning by ear, practical theory, technique, and developing voice-instrument awareness—to help students become well-rounded musicians. I aim to equip them with the skills to adapt across genres and confidently participate in classical, jazz, pop, or rock settings, prepare for graded exams (ABRSM or Trinity), Conservatoire auditions, or ensemble participation. Drawing on over eight years of experience in a variety of educational settings—including my work as a peripatetic brass tutor at City Academy Hackney, The John Roan School, and Bonus Pastor Catholic College—as well as my work with Tomorrow’s Warriors, NYJO, and international jazz workshop Jazz House Kids—I bring real-world musical experience to every lesson. My goal is to make learning brass both enjoyable and inspiring, encouraging students to explore different styles and discover their unique voice on the instrument. I aim to create an inclusive and motivating environment where every student can thrive—whether they aspire to a music career or simply want to enjoy playing as a lifelong skill.
