There are two approaches I take with my students. In an individual, one on one, session, I socratically discover what the student needs to learn the subject and/or get through their class. In a group class, I set up the discussion with the students and lead them to discovery of the subject. Whether that discovery implies complete understanding or just enough to do better on the next test.
