About Maxence

I graduated with an Artist Diploma from the Royal College of Music (RCM) in 2023, having also completed my Undergraduate and Master’s degrees there. During the 2022/2023 academic year, I was honored to serve as the Musicians’ Company Constant & Kit Lambert Junior Fellow, a role that further enriched my artistic and professional journey. Teaching Experience I am currently a teacher at the Rachmaninoff Music School and the Harrow Music Service. With 13 years of experience, I have taught both privately and in music schools, helping students excel at all levels. I have a strong track record with ABRSM grade exams, with most of my students achieving distinctions. I hold an Enhanced DBS check to ensure a safe and professional teaching environment. Performance Experience As an active performer, I engage in a wide range of musical activities, including chamber music, orchestral concerts, and solo recitals. I have performed at prestigious venues such as Paris’s Cité de la Musique, the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican, and the Shanghai Philharmonie. I have collaborated with esteemed artists, including Maxim Vengerov, Olivier Charlier, Sir Antonio Pappano, and the late Bernard Haitink. My festival appearances include the Festival de Saint-Denis (France) and the Westport Chamber Music Festival (Ireland).

Having devoted most of my life learning the violin, I have encountered many great professors, each of them adding their print to my teaching spectrum. This wide exposure allows me to adapt my lessons to the needs and goals of each of my students. Here are a couple of points I try to develop during my lessons. Comfort: Being a shoulder-mounted instrument, violin learning tends to be a tiring process. During the lessons, I always make sure that the student feels comfortable with the instrument, correcting the posture when necessary, as this is the base of a healthy playing and prevents any type of injury. Listening: Having no frets or keys on the violin can make it a scary instrument at first. However, with a step-by-step learning, as well as developing the listening skills, all of my students easily develop and sharpen their pre-existing skills, making the violin much less of a mystery. Memory: Learning the violin is an excellent way to develop memory skills of different types (visual/auditory/sensorial). I always encourage my students to play by memory as soon as they can. I do believe that the best part of playing an instrument comes when you break free from the boundaries of the music score. With a step-by-step learning, all of my students manage to develop and improve their memory skills, making the fun part more accessible. Personality: Playing an instrument is a great way to affirm your personality. As a teacher, I always encourage my students to put their own words/ideas/images on the music they are playing. I believe this helps them develop confidence and imagination, as well as the ability to defend their point.
