About SOFIA

I have worked as a professional voice actor for years, lending my voice to characters across film, animation, and dubbing work, and that background shapes almost every ESL lesson I teach today. Twelve years into teaching now, I've worked with about two hundred sixty adult students, many of them drawn specifically to my unusual focus on expression, character, and genuine vocal confidence. My voice acting background gives me a naturally expressive, performance-focused teaching style, treating spoken fluency a bit like character work, built through genuine practice and playful experimentation. I connect particularly well with adult learners who specifically want to sound expressive and natural, not just technically correct on paper somewhere disconnected from real speech. My teaching style is energetic, expressive, and genuinely performance-minded, built on years of real, professional voice work rather than purely academic language training alone. I take genuine pride in watching a student's spoken English transform from flat and hesitant into expressive, confident, and genuinely alive with real character. Many students tell me they finally feel free to actually play with the language, rather than stiffly reciting memorized phrases somewhere disconnected from real speech. My approach treats spoken language as a genuine performance worth practicing. After twelve years, I remain genuinely passionate about this teaching approach.

About the lesson

My career voicing characters professionally shapes an entirely expressive, performance-based approach to teaching ESL, since I genuinely believe vocal expression and confidence matter just as much as correct vocabulary alone. We work constantly on tone, pitch, and expression, treating spoken English a bit like character work, where genuine emotional range brings language vividly to life. I record students regularly, the same way I review my own professional voice work, letting them hear their own genuine progress in expression and natural flow over time. I encourage students to try different "characters" or personas when speaking, since stepping into a role often frees people from the self-consciousness that quietly blocks real progress. Pronunciation and intonation receive serious, dedicated attention, drawing on professional voice training techniques most ESL teachers were simply never taught themselves professionally. Listening practice uses real dubbed film and animation content, exposing adult learners to natural, expressive English delivered by working professional voice actors. I teach breathing and vocal warm-up techniques borrowed directly from professional voice work, helping students speak more confidently and comfortably over longer stretches. Grammar still gets covered thoroughly, but always tied back to how it actually sounds spoken aloud with genuine expression and feeling. Every lesson focuses on bringing language genuinely to life.
