About Jake
My journey in programming began with curiosity about how software can transform ideas into practical solutions. This interest led me to complete a B.Sc in Software Engineering and an M.Sc in Computer Science, providing both technical expertise and conceptual depth. Over the past 8 years, I have helped learners develop strong coding foundations through patient, structured, and engaging lessons.
I focus on clarity, concept-driven teaching, and individualised guidance. Complex topics are broken down into manageable steps, with real-world examples to illustrate application. I encourage independent thinking, experimentation, and asking questions to ensure learners develop confidence and competence.
Beyond teaching, I remain engaged with emerging technologies, personal coding projects, and collaborative software development, enriching my lessons with practical insights. Teaching programming is deeply fulfilling because I witness learners transform from uncertainty to competence, gaining skills that serve them academically, professionally, and personally. My goal is to cultivate creative, confident, and skilled programmers capable of independent problem-solving.

Programming becomes engaging when learners understand the reasoning behind each algorithm, line of code, and design decision. My approach emphasises conceptual understanding, so learners can write efficient, reliable programmes independently. Each lesson includes hands-on coding, debugging practice, and structured challenges that build both skill and confidence. My goal is to make programming approachable, logical, and deeply rewarding.
Lessons are personalised based on learner experience. Beginners develop foundational programming logic, loops, conditional statements, and simple projects. Intermediate learners strengthen modular design, recursion, debugging strategies, and algorithmic thinking. Advanced learners tackle optimisation, APIs, project integration, and preparation for competitive programming or academic challenges. Each session reinforces concepts through practice and feedback to ensure lasting understanding.
