About Charlotte
I love psychology, and want to pursue it as a degree so that in the future I can become a educational therapist, where I would help students with their problems and any troubles they may face whether it is directly related to their studies or is external and is having an impact on them. To put it simply, I am a student who has recently completed her GCSE's and dreams of going to university so that I can give the help to students I never received.
I find psychology to be fascinating with infinite possibilities, and citizenship to be a deep subject where you develop the knowledge and skills of the real world. I wish to teach these subjects as I believe Psychology broadens the mind and is a fun passionate subject that students either aren't often taught about or when they are, taught in a narrow manner where they don't explore it. It is due to this students often don't find the subject interesting which in turn affects how much much they really take all of it in. Citizenship however I believe is a vital subject that needs to be given more attention, as it makes students aware of charities & politics or rather the world we live in, which is something schools often lack.
I believe that by being a tutor for these subjects, I can not only improve the tutee's grades but also spark an interest in the way of the mind and develop a deeper understanding of the way of the world around us. It has also been proven that the best way of learning is by teaching, so I hope as a tutor to learn from this experience just like the tutee.

My teaching method is usually structured around the individual, depending on if they need help on a topic or how to write responses to different question styles as well as their specific circumstances, such as time left until exams. All my sessions however have these incorporated in them:
Acronyms to help with the recall of information, drawings & diagrams as visual learning can aid in the processing of information, at least one reference to a key concept, study or theory so that the knowledge can be applied to a situation and one (or more) exam questions which we would discuss answering together after giving them a chance to attempt it on their own. Finally, to conclude the session, I would give a summary of everything we have covered and what we would typically continue with next time.
Whilst I do not always include this method, I have often found that the use of a whiteboard for taking notes and/or recalling old information is a great resource. Whilst it may seem odd, it is useful because it makes the mind more likely to remember information due to having to rub it all off rather than having the chance to go back to it in the future like you typically would with an exercise book. It is vital to remember when using this method to attempt memorising it before erasing it as well as actively trying to recall it on the whiteboard and then correct your self using the source you were taking notes from after when you cannot remember anymore. For me to put this into practice, I would have to do it in one of my longer timeframes and it is most effective in person but still nonetheless works online.
I do 3 block periods (30 minutes, 45 minutes and 1 hour) with a mini break ranging from 5-10 minutes so that they can absorb it all, get a drink and come back refreshed. I will be doing online tutoring with some exceptions where I would do it face-to-face, depending on aspects such as location and accessibility.
My qualifications are Psychology and Citizenship GCSE grade 8 (A*) with all my other GCSE's including Maths and English ranging from grade 8 to 6. As stated in my advert, I am currently an IB student where I hope to continue Psychology as an undergraduate degree. Due to this, I only teach up to and including GCSE level for Psychology and Citizenship. In regards to experience, I have previously tutored a couple younger students and held study sessions for fellow peers during the exam period at my secondary school and was recently a volunteer assistant in the classroom for 6 months at another school in Kent (reference letter available if desired).
