About Lucy

Hello, I’m Dr. Lucy Flitton, a licensed Psychologist in private practice with a PhD in Existential Philosophy and a lifelong passion for Modern Abstract Art. For years, I have had the privilege of holding space for people in my therapy room as they wrestle with life’s deepest questions: who am I, really? What gives my life meaning? How do I live authentically in a world that often feels chaotic or indifferent? These are not just clinical issues—they are profoundly human ones, explored for centuries by philosophers like Sartre, Camus, and others, which are expressed with raw emotional power by artists like Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Willem de Kooning. This is why I teach psychology: Teaching allows me to share the insights I have gained—not only from research and textbooks, but from real human lives in practice, from the existential tradition, and from the silent, yet overwhelming presence of great abstract art. I want students to experience Psychology not as a dry, academic subject, but as a living path towards greater self-understanding, courage, curiosity, and creativity. Whether you’re studying for an exam, writing a Uni paper, or simply drawn to understanding the human conditions more deeply, I bring a very personal and interdisciplinary approach. My lessons weave together clinical wisdom, philosophical inquiry, and the emotional language of art to make complex ideas feel the weight of beauty of presence—I am reminded why this work matters. Helping others awaken to their own depth and possibility is one of the greatest privileges I know. I look forward to walking part of this journey with you.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching Psychology is deeply personal and tailored to each student’s unique journey. In our first session, we’ll explore not just your academic goals, but what truly matters to you—what questions keep you up at night, what you hope to understand about yourself and the world. From there, I design every lesson around you: your learning style, pace, curiosities, and challenges. Drawing from my private clinical practice, I bring real-world insights into human experience—how people confront anxiety, search for meaning, or reclaim authenticity. My PhD in Existential Philosophy allows us to dive into thinkers such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Albert Camus, and Søren Kierkegaard not as distant theories, but as living tools to navigating life’s deepest dilemmas. Through Modern Art Abstract Expressionist Art, we explore emotions visually and viscerally. A Rothko canvas can reveal more about mood and presence than pages of texts; interpreting a Pollock drip painting can unlock understanding of chaos, freedom, and creative impulse. Whether you are preparing for exams, writing a university paper, or simply wanting Psychology to feel relevant to your life, my 60-minute sessions blend discussion, reflective exercises, art interpretation, philosophical inquiry, and practical insights—always adapted to what helps you connect and grow. Psychology, for me, isn’t just a subject. It’s a path to living more fully. I’m here to walk part of that path with you.
