About Saniya
From a young age I have always had a keen interest in the way things work and how to deal with problems which is what led to my studying Psychology at University. I believe that being a teacher is one of the most important jobs as you have a huge impact on how children develop into adults, guiding them and giving them the relevant tools to be able to navigate through the world.
Through my work as a Maths tutor I developed many skills, working with children of differing levels. Starting tutoring at 16, I felt it a perfect age to educate myself on what it would take to become a teacher with real-life, practical experience. Along the way I developed many transferrable skills such as time keeping and preparation as it was vital to have the study material ready. My lessons were planned beforehand, although sometimes things didn’t go to plan as some students may have struggled with a certain topic so I felt it was always important to make sure they understood what they were learning before moving on. This helped me develop problem solving skills, which as a teacher you can expect at any time as you are dealing with human beings who are prone to run through a spectrum of emotions on a daily basis. Communication is vital as a teacher which is why I took time to make sure that everything was well understood with my students and that they were never afraid to ask questions, as I believe that this is a key way of learning and advancement. Working in a team and managing people is also important as a teacher, with many students looking up to you for guidance but at the same time an authority figure who must maintain discipline.
Studying Psychology at University was an easy decision for me as not only do I have a real desire to work with people, I am also fascinated with human behaviour. Psychology in Education was an interesting module for me as it relates to teaching and the environment that underpins effective teaching and learning in educational settings. Developmental Psychology helped me to understand the growth of children, specifically how and why they change over the course of their life. Other subjects such as Social Psychology enabled me to better understand the interactions of people and how they are influenced by their surroundings. Overall I believe, this gives me a deeper understanding of the human psyche which is really effective for my desired career path.
During my time at college I volunteered at a local charity shop. I found this to be a very enjoyable experience as it was a means of helping others without getting anything in exchange. Similarly, coming from a fairly large family, I would often babysit the young children, which was a tough but rewarding experience, I found myself growing each time I did it. Making things fun in terms of learning and creating distractions were important for the children, to preoccupy and engage their brain without making them aware of it so it would subconsciously be a part of them.
In my spare time I like to read books such as autobiographies of influential people. I enjoy cooking, swimming and generally keeping fit. I recently went abroad for a short time and developed a keen interest in travelling, I hope to travel to more countries in the future. I also enjoy keeping up to date with what's going on in the news and reading journal articles on new developments in Psychology.

My teaching style is hands on, I like to make sure my students understand what is being taught by giving plenty of examples and explaining the work followed by letting them practice themselves. I then would go over the work with them to see if they understood and work from there to help them further.
