About Roxana

I'm a clinical research coordinator with a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences and a background in both research and teaching. I've spent the last two years coordinating clinical trials, where I've worked directly with patients and physicians, and I'm a mid-author on a peer-reviewed publication in Cells. Alongside that, I currently work as an academic mentor at a nonprofit, where I teach AP Biology, AP Physics, and chemistry to about 30 high school students and advise them on college and STEM career pathways. Before that, I taught STEM at the elementary level for two years. I'm a first-generation college graduate, and I know how intimidating these courses can feel when you don't have someone at home to ask. That experience shapes how I teach. I'm reliable, I prepare for every session, and I'm genuinely invested in my students understanding the material rather than just getting through the next exam. I tutor in English and Spanish.

About the lesson

I hold an MS in biomedical sciences and currently teach AP Biology, AP Physics, and chemistry to high school students, with two prior years teaching STEM at the elementary level. My approach is concept-first: most students struggling in science have memorized steps without understanding what's underneath, so I find where the understanding actually broke and rebuild from there. A typical session starts with whatever is in front of you, an exam, a problem set, a lab report, and I'll often have you attempt a problem while I watch. We work through the underlying concept, apply it to progressively harder problems, and end with you explaining it back to me in your own words. Send me your syllabus or old exams and I'll teach toward how your class actually tests. I work with college students in biology, anatomy & physiology, microbiology, general chemistry, and introductory physics, including pre-nursing and pre-health students; high school students in AP Bio, AP Physics, and chemistry; and elementary and middle school students in general science. Lessons available in English or Spanish.
