About Ray
I am a graduate Mechanical Engineer from Purdue University. In high school, I was on the four-year honor roll, and excelled in science and algebra classes. In my 35-year career in industrial management and operations, I utilized Microsoft Excel extensively in tracking utility usage, and in reporting to upper management. Throughout my life, I have been focused on helping others succeed in their pursuits.

Tutoring requires an understanding of the needs of the student. In listening to the student, their goals, concerns, and present level of understanding are evaluated. Working with the student, a plan and schedule of study is developed and an outline is agreed upon to achieve the student's goal(s) efficiently and effectively. A typical lesson plan for algebra may look like this: Systems of equations a) Solving systems by graphing b) Solving systems by substitution c) Solving systems by elimination d) Solving systems for three unknowns e) Solving word problems For each topic, basic methods are reviewed, then applied by working through examples. Weaknesses in prerequisite skills are identified and addressed before moving on. Throughout my tutoring process, there is continual reassessment of progress toward meeting the student's goal(s) within the scheduled time frame. The end result is for the student to have confidence they will be successful in achieving their goal(s). Goals may include: 1. Improving overall class performance and grade. 2. Preparation for upcoming quizzes and exams 3. Meeting the requirements for job or trade application (such as International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers)
