About Anissa

As a nursing student turned math major, I have a diverse background in all types of STEM courses ranging from physiology and microbiology lab courses to multivariable calculus, abstract algebra, differential equations, statistics, and beyond. I have also taken courses in real and complex analysis, which allow me to take a much more detailed approach as a calculus tutor.

My love for math tutoring and mentoring came about as somewhat of an accident. While working with one of my favorite professors as a Calculus I student assistant in 2022, I discovered just how much I loved helping struggling calculus students. The students also enjoyed my help as I bring a very enthusiastic approach to calculus subjects that is rare but refreshing.

Not only am I enthusiastic about all types of math subjects, but I have been told by many students and peers that my vibrant perspective on said subjects helps to make learning more enjoyable and therefore encourages stronger success. As your math tutor, I pledge to not only help you become more successful in your math courses but also to help you enjoy the journey of becoming a better math student.

About the lesson

As your tutor, we will set goals together based on your needs for improving your grades on your exams, to simply wanting to become better at the subject. Each thirty-minute to an hour-long session will target one micro goal at a time, to ensure we work towards your larger goals each time we meet. Depending on your needs, I will provide a mini-lesson on the material. However, I believe math is best conquered by learning from your mistakes. Therefore, my tutoring approach includes practice with many example problems for you to work on during our sessions.

I was once a math student who struggled through the most basic concepts of algebra, calculus, and other math subjects so there is no need to be intimidated; I will mentor and encourage you along your math journey!

The first lesson is a free, thirty-minute session where we will discuss what you are looking to get out of tutoring, and what your goals are. Ultimately, this session allows you and me to determine our compatibility for a student-mentor relationship!
