About Sam
Lessons are project-based, so you have some fun, whilst learning some key programming concepts!
Projects might include a portfolio website from scratch - suitable for all the family, coding FUNdamentals (sorry, couldn’t help it!) with a choice of languages -- whether that's a block-based editor or a text-based language Python or JavaScript.
As a qualified Computer Science Teacher with a background in Web Development, and 8 years experience in the Systems Support sector, I have developed the knowledge and resources to cover teaching students of all ages: from Primary School to A-Level, and beyond…
After we’ve finished each session you’ll have new skills to develop, independently, in your own time.

My youngest student was 6 years old. He has coded a custom maze game from Scratch without relying on a step-by-step guide; my oldest student a little older - she wanted to build a website for a master's assignment. I don’t see the value in running through a tutorial, it’s important to problem-solve and think through problems. My role is to facilitate this.
For the last 2 years, I've been moving around Europe teaching long and short term students to grow. Students include:
• From A-Level predicted 'D' to 'A' and into university. His parents had been told and thought this would not be possible (we still have sessions).
• An entrepreneurial OXBRIDGE candidate.
• A top tier Harvard Economics Major.
• A bright young A-Level student with some unique challenges: Autism and selective mutism.
Prior to this I taught Computer Science for 2 years in London Schools whilst offering tuition 1-1. During which time, I taught hundreds of students including 50 exam-ready (GCSE and A-Level) and 7 private tuition students, all of whom have developed key skills through project-based work and ultimately hit their goals!
Experience in mixed, all-boys and all-girls schools has allowed me to teach and relate to a wide range of students. One of these schools won the “Time Educational Supplement (TES) School of the Year” award. Working here allowed collaboration with, and picking up pedagogy from some of the best teachers in the country.

Sam’s Computer subject knowledge and programming skills are excellent. Having worked with Sam as HOD at an outstanding school I feel that Sam was always professional and passionate to bring a positive vibe to learning. He has numerous resources to engage all abilities in a range of programming and theory topics. Highly recommended.
Sam is an enthusiastic, engaging and incredible knowledgeable tutor. My son has been have weekly tutor sessions with Sam over the last few weeks and I've seen my son's confidence and ability grow already. Sam is incredibly reliable and I'd definitely recommend him.
Sam is very knowledgeable and very easy to talk too. He really helped me in my final year of University and it's safe to say I got a 1st in my computer science degree. He's now helping my nephew who's in year 8 with his IT work and is very good with him and engages him easily and of course, his work has really improved! I'd definitely recommend Sam and already have to family and friends.
I first met Sam at University, he's a very friendly and hardworking
individual, hence the 1st Degree he achieved. He is a talented programmer
and now uses his talents to teach, he always liked to share knowledge and
likes to see individuals improve, and he actually helped me obtain my 1st
degree in computer science! I now work as a software engineer for UCAS and
I still ask Sam for pointers!i am happy to provide a reference for Sam who trained as a computer science teacher at King's College London. Sam has great subject knowledge, and is a good teacher. He is able to use a range of approaches and resources to explain difficult concepts. Overall he has good rapport with his students, and is very professional.
Sue SentanceWorking with Sam, on a daily basis I see his determination and drive to shape young minds. His patience and warmth shines through and those he teaches responds well to him. He is passionate about this subject and that transcends through to his other projects and work such as this. Because he truly wants to enable people with the tools to develop their passion within computer programming.
Sam has excellent subject knowledge and, as a practising Computer Science teacher, has a great way of explaining even the most complex of topics in a simple, easy-to-understand way.
