About Nicholas
I'm a passionate and experienced History teacher and tutor, helping students achieve their potential in GCSE and A level History.
My approach is student-centred, with clear feedback and practical next steps. I aim to help students think and write like historians, developing the knowledge, analytical skills and exam technique they need to succeed. I teach AQA, Edexcel and OCR.
I have a First-Class BA History degree and an MA in Medieval History. In my first year of teaching, my GCSE class achieved results significantly above the school's average. During my A level teaching at a college, I helped students make significant improvements in their essay performance, particularly in selecting and analysing evidence.
I also have four years of experience tutoring History. Among GCSE students who completed multiple tuition sessions (6 or more), all achieved at least two GCSE grades higher than their expected grade.

Success in History is all about practice! Exam technique and historical skills such as analysing sources and evaluating change and continuity over time are acquired by developing the skill of thinking and writing like a historian. I help you develop these skills from the very first session together.
I also help consolidate key historical dates, names and events through engaging quizzes and resources which you can use on your phone when you have 10 minutes to spare.
You may come to our first lesson with a clear idea of where you most need help. I will help you identify exactly what we need to focus on for success in GCSE and A level History. If you are not sure where to start, there is no need to worry. Through targeted questioning and my assessment resources, I can quickly build a picture of your current strengths and areas for development.
I have extensive classroom and tutoring experience. In my first year of teaching, my GCSE History class results significantly above the school's average. I have also taught A level History at a top-performing grammar school, where I particularly enjoyed stretching the most able students to achieve their full potential.
In 2022, I qualified as a tutor through the National Tutoring programme and have experience of delivering tuition in schools. I have four years experience of tutoring History and, among students who completed multiple tuition sessions, all achieved at least two GCSE grades higher than expected.

Face-to-face tuition at your home is £50 per hour. 5 hours of face-to-face tuition is £220. 10 hours of face-to-face tuition is £400.
Online tuition (via Zoom or Teams) is £45 per hour. 5 hours of online tuition is £200. 10 hours is £375.
