About Loz

I’m a qualified secondary maths teacher (PGCE) with classroom experience and a strong academic background, currently teaching and preparing to begin my induction year.

I got into teaching maths because I’ve always enjoyed breaking things down and making them make sense. A lot of students are told maths is “hard”, when really it’s just about finding the right way to explain it! Once things click, it becomes much more manageable—and even enjoyable.

Outside of maths, I’m a musician and have spent a lot of time directing bands and organising events. That’s definitely shaped how I teach: I keep things structured and clear, but also relaxed and engaging. I don’t believe in making lessons feel like a lecture—students learn best when they feel comfortable, involved, and able to ask questions.

I enjoy tutoring because it gives me the chance to work properly with individuals, adapt to how they think, and help them build confidence in a way that isn’t always possible in a busy classroom.

About the lesson

I’m a qualified secondary maths teacher (PGCE) with strong subject knowledge and real classroom experience in all types of school. I specialise in helping students build confidence, close gaps in understanding, and improve exam performance in KS3 and GCSE maths.

My teaching is structured but flexible, adapting to each student’s needs. I focus on:

- Diagnosing gaps quickly and targeting weak areas
- Building clear step-by-step methods rather than memorisation
- Using exam-style questions early to develop confidence and technique
- Encouraging students to explain their thinking, which improves retention and understanding

Typical lesson length: 45 minutes
Sessions usually include:
- Review of previous learning
-Targeted teaching of a key topic
- Practice with guided support
- Exam questions and feedback

Exam preparation and technique

Experience and qualifications:
- PGCE in Secondary Maths
- Strong academic background in mathematics
- Experience working with a range of abilities in classroom settings
- Additional background as a musician, bringing a calm, structured and engaging teaching style
