About Benjamin
**Why I like to teach Maths**
I've always really enjoyed maths. My earliest memory of being amazed by a bit of maths was when I was about 5 years old on a family holiday, and my dad showed me what algebra was (bit lame for a holiday, I know) - since then I was hooked!!
I realised at school and growing up that I love explaining things to people! Trying to understand how to get another person to understand a concept that they have not yet understood (but will) is so rewarding. I enjoy it so much in fact that after finishing my degree, I became a maths teacher.
I learnt over the year that everyone finds something about maths really difficult, everyone. There's always going to be something that you find confusing or haven't quite understood. But I think that's what I love about it. I've been studying maths in one form or another all my life and it's given me so much! By teaching I hope to pass on some of the love that I have for mathematics, and hope that it will enrich your life, as it has mine.
----------
**A little about my background**
After finishing my maths degree at the University of Sheffield, I spent 2 years working as a maths teacher, helping hundreds of students of all ages achieve top GCSE grades in Maths and Further Maths. I along with another teacher introduced Further Maths GCSE and Math Challenge to the school for the first time.
Recently I have been working in industry, developing my career as a financial risk consultant (basically trying to figure out how likely certain things are to happen) and as a data analyst (playing around with spreads sheets to make sure they're all neat and tidy).
I am also working towards completing professional exams with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (more maths stuff)
If you're interested in hearing more about what I do for a day job I'd be happy to chat about it in one of our sessions.

In the first session, I like to start be having an informal discussion where I can start to understanding where you are starting from, your preferred style of learning, and what you want to achieve from the lessons.
I have been told that I have a calm and helpful way of explaining things. Many of the kids that I taught have said that I made maths fun, and they didn't know that was possible :D
After the first session you'll hopefully have the information you need to go away and decide whether my style of teaching will work for you.
--------
Some of the things that I really think help development are:
- Lots of practice questions
- Giving you the opportunity to explain ideas
- Attempting challenging question
-------------
If you have any further questions, about anything at all, please drop me a message and I will get back to you as quickly as possible :)

Thank you for looking at my SuperProf profile and I wish you all the best with finding your next tutor!!
