About James

Hi, I'm James, a qualified secondary school teacher with five years of teaching experience and a passion for helping students grow in confidence and achieve their potential in maths.

Over the past five years, I've taught a wide range of students, including three years teaching secondary Maths before moving into Engineering and Design & Technology. I've also spent a year tutoring students aged 6–16 in both one-to-one and small-group settings, giving me experience supporting learners of all abilities.

I enjoy helping students overcome challenges, develop confidence and realise that maths doesn't have to be intimidating. I believe that every student can succeed with the right support, encouragement and teaching approach.

Outside the classroom, I have a keen interest in engineering, design and technology, which allows me to bring practical, real-world examples into my teaching and make maths more engaging and relevant.

I'm friendly, patient and approachable, and I pride myself on creating a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process.

About the lesson

Every lesson is tailored to the individual student. Whether you're looking to build confidence, catch up on missed topics or achieve the highest GCSE grades, I'll adapt my teaching to suit your goals and learning style.

I'm a qualified secondary school teacher with five years of classroom experience, including three years teaching Maths and two years teaching Engineering and Design & Technology. I also have a year's experience tutoring students aged 6–16 in both one-to-one and small-group settings.

I offer tuition for KS2, KS3 and GCSE Maths (Foundation & Higher), helping students prepare for SATs, improve class performance and succeed in exams.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes and focus on clear explanations, worked examples and plenty of practice. I aim to make maths enjoyable, build confidence and develop a genuine understanding—not just memorising methods.

As an experienced teacher, I know the common mistakes students make and the techniques that help them gain marks in exams. My engineering background also allows me to explain how maths is used in real-life situations, making lessons practical and engaging.

Whether your child needs extra support or is aiming for the top grades, I'd be delighted to help them reach their full potential.
